Northton Heritage Trust has been awarded a grant of £54,000 ($90,000) towards safeguarding the lifelong genealogical work of Bill Lawson, internationally known for his work on collecting and documenting the history of the
Outer Hebrides. His collections include official records, oral histories and other local documents through which Bill has been able to re-tell the (his)story of the Western Isles of Harris, Lewis, North & South Uist, St. Kilda, Benbecula and Taransay.
The grant will see Lawson’s work being rewritten and updated and placed on a bilingual (English & Gaelic) website called hebridespeople.com Lawson’s books will also be available for sale through the website.
